Blog2Social WordPress plugin to share to Instagram -It Struck My Fancy
The only way I could figure out how to post my images from this blog to Instagram was on my phone in the Instagram app. I tried to do it from my Mac, but it doesn’t give you many options for anything on the desktop version. UGH!
So, in order to share the images, I had to get the images on my phone and that took awhile (not a ton of time, but enough). Then I had to add them to Instagram from my iPhone app. When you do that, you then have to type out all you want. No fun typing THAT much on an iPhone. Agreed?
This meant, I didn’t regularly share my photo’s on Instagram.
I was having issues with WordPress auto-posting to Facebook on the other blog I write for. Searching for some auto posting plugins on WordPress, I came across Blog2Social. I got excited because it can share on a bunch of social sites including Instagram. SCORE!
Blog2Social WordPress Plugin
OK, so this plugin has a free version and a paid version. Looks like the only way to schedule the social sharing is to have the paid version. Not sure I want to do that…yet. First I want to try it out and see what it does, what it looks like. Then I may try out their free 30 day trial of the paid version and see if it is worth it. It’s somewhere in the ball park of $50 dollars. It may be worth it because the “smart” plan is for two users and I would use it for the other blog I run.
Most of my posts I do not schedule, so the free version works well. After you publish your post on WordPress, it then prompts you to share socially. Sweet. Love the reminder. At this point, I played with sharing socially to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. I decided to not allow it to post for Facebook and Twitter. I found another plugin for those which is free, but you have to pay to get what you need for Pinterest and Instagram to work. I will write about that plugin when I have played with it for a while. *** update*** I am now using Blog2Social for Facebook and Twitter as well and really like it. I will do a review on using it for those social media sites soon.
Pinterest, it will let you choose what image you want and where you want to post it. It didn’t seem to do the descriptions the way I wanted them, so I took that off. For now anyway. Also, using it caused my Pinterest account to go into like a safe mode. After asking their tech support about that, they told me that it does happen but they have not heard of anyone having trouble with it after they reset their password. I will play with that later. I wanted to focus on Instagram because it is the most difficult to do without a plugin. ***update*** I have gotten it to work on Pinterest and it works very well. I will write a post to review this product for Pinterest soon.
Instagram. Well woo hoo. I was able to go the Blog2Social Dashboard and see all my old posts and it gave me the option to publish them to Instagram. That is what I am doing as I type out the draft of this post.
Using Blog2Social WordPress Plugin to share to Instagram
Using Blog2Social WordPress plugin to share to Instagram is pretty darn easy. The above image is a screenshot of what Blog2Social WordPress Plugin looks like when you have installed it. The dashboard is where you can go back to any post and share it to social media. When you choose the post you will be brought to where you can choose what you want to say on Instagram (see the screenshot below) So easy.
It will pull up most of the information you need anyway. You can tweek what you want to write, you can add your hashtags AND you can choose whichever image you want to share. You can use this to post to Instagram when you post or after the fact, like I am doing today. What’s sweet is that you don’t have to use a square image on Instagram anymore. So really you can use any of the images on your blog.
The big difference here with the free version vs the paid, is the ability to set up recurring shares. Now, I don’t see the need to do this on Instagram (for myself anyway), but I think if you were using this for Twitter, this would be a huge thing.
I think also there would be the advantage of setting the shares when you have the post scheduled for a later date. So, if you are pretty much just publishing as you write the free version is enough.
The best thing about using Blog2Social WordPress plugin to share to Instagram is that you can go back and get yourself all caught up posting your images there, without needing to do it from your phone app.
One more thing about this app that I’ve learned
It didn’t seem obvious to me at first (when I had multiple social accounts set up for the plugin) that you could choose to have it only post to certain ones. I had to ask them. What would show if I had more than Instagram set up in the plugin, is all of them in that black box to the right. Do you see the green check mark? You can click that to remove which ever you don’t want to share to.
That’s it folks
That’s all there is to using Blog2Social WordPress plugin to share to Instagram. It’s simple and that is why I am use Blog2Social WordPress plugin to share to Instagram. No more saving the image to my phone and then having to upload it from there….then all that thumb typing! It’s just easy. It’s a solution to my problem and maybe it will be your solution to.
